Diocèse de Kigali
The Archdiocese of KIGALI is one of the nine dioceses of Rwanda. It encompasses the current Kigali City Council (Kigali City), a part of the Northern Province (Rulindo District and Gakenke District) and a large part of the Eastern Province (Bugesera District and part of Rwamagana District).
The Archdiocese of Kigali was founded on April 10, 1976 when, at the decision of Pope Paul VI, the former archdiocese of KABGAYI was divided into two dioceses : Kabgayi and Kigali, with Monsignor Vincent NSENGIYUMVA as the first Archbishop. He led the Archdiocese of Kigali until his assassination in 1994.
From December 1994 to the present day, the Archdiocese of Kigali is led by His Excellence Monsignor Thaddée NTIHINYURWA, first as Apostolic Administrator and then as Metropolitan Archbishop.
